Education – A Powerful Tool for Empowerment
May 26, 2022

Educating girls and women is pivotal to the growth and development of a nation. As rightly quoted by someone, “If you educate a man, you educate an individual, but if you educate a woman, you educate a family.” Educating girl children can transform lives for the better. However, it is unfortunate when people across socio-economic strata believe that investing in a girl child’s education is the prodigality of money.

Every day, millions of girls and women are denied their fundamental right to education. Educating girls and women can enable them to empower themselves. Therefore, a shift in the mindset towards women’s education is the need of the hour. The Indian Government has been making persistent efforts and has developed various schemes and programs. Corporates are also strategizing CSR projects to ensure girls and women get quality education. Key Management Group Inc. is one such organization striving to empower girls and women by leveraging educational initiatives.

KMG, as a part of its CSR initiative, has collaborated with ASARA Trust to uplift the living standard of underprivileged girls and women by providing scholarships for educational activities. This initiative supports The Government Girls High School and Government First Grade College at Hoskote – a small town in the Bangalore Rural district of Karnataka. The scholarship assistance for Hoskote Girls started in 2012, with three girls getting twenty thousand rupees in total. This year, it has increased to 330 students with a total outlay of forty-nine lakh rupees. This number is only set to grow year on year. The aim is to reach 500 students in the next year. Through this initiative, KMG has funded the scholarship program for the Hoskote girls.

In addition to studying in B.A., B.Sc., B.Com., and P.U. Hoskote girls are also pursuing M.Sc., M.Com., M.A., and B.Ed. Also, for the first time, Inter-Collegiate Debate competitions in English and Kannada were organized in 2021. Besides, we have built a library of over 30 laptops and six tablets loaned to scholarship girls to become proficient in computer operations. Apart from education, one of the ex-students broke the All-India Junior weight lifting record in 2021 in sports. Many of the graduate girls working with some leading companies have started donating to the education of the younger girls.

The girls of these institutions are shining like stars in various fields, be it academics or sports. They are primarily from the impoverished section of society, and affording quality education is a luxury. This is where the scholarship program initiated by KMG jointly with ASARA Trust turned out to be an opportunity for these determined and enthusiastic girls. This program is helping the girls to pursue education, thereby making themselves self-reliant, and reforming society as a whole in the long run.
