Ensuring Better Health – A Free Eye and Health Check-Up Campaign

May 11, 2023

Your eyes are one of the most delicate organs of your body. Taking care of them is as important as looking after your overall health. And that is the reason why a routine eye check-up is a must!

A common perception about eye testing is that it is just to check the power of the glasses; however, there is much more to an eye examination than visual acuity tests. A complete eye examination covers deeper aspects of visual function.

How often should you get your eyes checked?

Whether a patient needs a visual acuity test or a comprehensive examination totally depends on the patient’s current ocular health. Therefore, getting your eyes examined from time-to-time is important for maintaining a healthy eyesight. For a healthy visual function, doctors recommend that adults get their eyes checked at least once in 2 years.

But not everyone can afford regular health check-ups, especially those living in remote areas with limited healthcare facilities. For such an underprivileged section, Mahavir International Delhi, jointly conducted with Gyankunj and supported by the SSS Foundation, took the initiative to organize a free eye and health check-up camp in Samudayik Kender, J. J. Colony, Bawana, Delhi.

Don’t Ignore Your Eyes – The Importance of Regular Eye Check-Ups

Regular eye check-ups are essential for maintaining good vision and preventing eye-related issues. It is important to note that many eye-related problems, including cataracts and glaucoma, have no noticeable symptoms in their early stages. Therefore, regular check-ups are crucial in detecting these issues early and taking appropriate measures to prevent them from worsening.

However, a lot of people neglect to get their eyes checked regularly, which can lead to undetected vision problems and even blindness. That is why this free eye check-up camp was a great initiative, especially for those who cannot afford to visit the doctor for a check-up.

Promoting Accessible Healthcare – A Free Eye and Health Check-Up Camp for the Needy

This eye and health camp was organized to provide free eye and general health check-ups to people who do not have access to healthcare facilities. The camp was set up with the help of volunteer doctors and medical professionals, who provided their services free of charge.

During the camp, patients received free eye examinations, including comprehensive tests for refractive errors, cataracts, and other common eye problems. Doctors and medical professionals provided free consultations and advice to patients on maintaining good eye health and preventing eye-related issues.

The camp was a great success, with 350 eye tests and 310 general check-ups conducted. Also, 12 cataract cases were detected and the patients were referred for further treatment. Free medicines and spectacles were also distributed to patients who required them. This was a great relief for many patients who would have otherwise been unable to afford these treatments.

In addition to the free eye check-up, the camp also provided general health check-ups, including blood pressure and blood sugar tests, to help detect any underlying health problems that may be present. By providing free eye examinations and general health check-ups, the camp helped detect and treat any underlying health problems that may have gone unnoticed. It was a great example of how we can come together to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

Summing Up

The camp was a true testament to the spirit of volunteerism and community service with doctors, medical professionals and others coming together to help those in need. The camp’s success would not have been possible without the support of the SSS Foundation, whose contribution was instrumental in making the event a reality.
