Empowering the Impoverished through Education
Jul 13, 2022

Education aids in social and psychological growth of a person, empowering our community as a whole. However, not everyone is blessed to reap the benefits of our existing education system. One of the major factors could be limited access to resources and hence education of children living in Indian slums still remains a burning issue.

Education plays a vital role in defining and transforming a person’s life and can be considered the only option for slum children to move towards an exemplary future. This cycle of illiteracy will continue if proper steps are not taken in time to provide quality education to poverty-stricken children. The government and corporates are striving hard to provide high-quality education to the marginalized section of society. SSS Foundation is one such organization that is making continuous efforts to uplift the living standards of the slum children by educating them.

As a part of our social service initiative, SSS Foundation has collaborated with Gyan Kunj, an education-centered NGO based in Bawana, to make the project ‘PRAYAS’ a success. Prayas intends to reduce dropout rates and provide high-quality and concept-oriented education to slum children. This program aspires to empower impoverished children by providing basic education, sewing classes, digital literacy and generating social awareness. Through this program, we presently engage 200+ students in the JJ colony of Bawana.

We are eagerly awaiting to implement similar programs in Shahbad Dairy, around 10kms from the Bawana center. Shahbad Dairyis a highly crime-prone area, and we are planning to open a tutorial class at this center to engage more and more children in meaningful and productive activities, keeping them away from negative influences.

With an aim of ‘Education is for all’, our campaign has been successful in uplifting the personality and performance of the disadvantaged children, making them responsible citizens of the country. Education has changed the mindset of the slum community and helped in the overall development of children with life skills, values, and activity-based learning, which has transformed their lives for better.
